Description
The purpose of this proposal is to investigate how can XWiki Open Source community use OpenCollective to gather funds. Service magnitude (Sep 2018): 726 collectives; 8,658 backers; $3,670,838 annual budget.
Things to consider:
- Show that XWiki SAS is doing a lot of sponsoring behind the XWiki project
- Allow users to express gratitude in using the project
- Find ways to thanks the sponsors for their donations
- Decide on a legal entity that will process the money
- Decide what the money collected will be invested in / used for
- Decide on a balance between one time contributions and recurrent contributions

XWiki is an open source software development platform based on the wiki principles, under the LGPL license. In addition to being a full-featured wiki, it is also a second generation wiki allowing effortless development of collaborative web applications. On top of this platform a plethora of applications are developed, targeted mainly on aiding enterprise-level needs.XWiki has a vibrant community of developers and users, consisting of individual users as well as organizations around the world that are using XWiki for their own Communities or Intranets.

Members
- For each member there are 2 roles that can be assigned: Core Contributor, Contributor.
- Only Core Contributors can edit this collective and approve or reject expenses.
- In order to add a member we need the name and an e-mail address.
- Use the XWiki organisation people info to invite members.
Fiscal Host
- The host holds the collective finances. If you would like to change host, you first need to empty your balance by filing expenses or transferring funds to another collective.
- Hosts on Open Collective depending on what services (branding, fiscal sponsorship, workshops, support, etc) they provide to the Collectives that they host.
- To be host, you need to have a legal entity and a bank account. You could also do it as an individual with your personal bank account, but remember you will be personally responsible for any tax/legal implications. You will also need to create a Stripe and PayPal account connected to your Host bank account.
