[VOTE] Integrate Workspaces by default in XWiki's default XAR http://markmail.org/thread/o6wfuvx5xab4bgdd (Jul 20, 2013)

About

  • Workspaces = a complete system for creating focused working spaces for managing working groups and their activity
  • Workspaces enables group collaboration around a given topic
  • A solution to enhance the productivity in terms of knowledge exchange and creation
    • A set of applications that are available in the workspace and that facilitates the tasks users commonly do in the context of a workspace.
  • Workspace Application has been integrated in XWiki Enterprise. We stopped the support for XWiki Enterprise Manager as a consequence.

Status

History

  • Integrate Workspace in the default XWiki distribution by Guillaume Delhumeau [5.2] (Sep 2013)
  • Virtual mode is always enabled by Eduard Moraru [5.0-M2] (May 2013)
  • XEM behaves as workspace manager by Eduard Moraru [3.3] (Dec 2012)
  • Experimental Workspaces by Eduard Moraru [3.2] (Dec 2012)
  • Workspace as an installable extention WIKITHREEDOTO-88 (Oct 2011)
  • WIKI3.0 Research project (2009 - 2011)

Types

  • Workspace can be created by users who have the rights to do so, and can be public or private. The user who created the workspace becomes its administrator and have all the management rights on the workspace itself. It can then give these rights to also other users if he wishes.
  • A public workspace is meant to be joined by any user while a private workspace, on the other hand, can be joined only after being accepted by the user who is the administrator.
  • In order to join a private workspace either a user receive an invitation from a member of the workspace, or she requests to the adminstrator(s) the right to join.
