Description

Goal: make the features in a wiki be discoverable by its users.

Ideas:

  • Similar to the features page for XE at http://enterprise.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/Features, the idea would be to implement a Feature Map of the wiki based on the extension installed in the wiki (including core extensions).
  • So we'd have a Feature Index somewhere listing all the features available in this wiki with ability to click on links to try the feature. We might need to add then notion of entry page for extensions that we've already discussed in the past and that we need anyway when users install a new extension, in order to lead them to how to use that new extension.
  • Another idea would to have such a map per user, i.e. for example add a tab in the user profile that lists all the features of the wiki and with ticks for all features that the user has visited already. Thus when we users goes to a URL that belongs to an extension (e.g. that points to a document that is part of the extension or with some part of the URL that can be recognized as being part of an extension), we would mark in the user's profile that he's seen the feature. This would give the user a score card and a global vision of what features he's seen and what he still has to discover.

Of course some features don't have an associated page (for example consider the extensions that adds a UI element in the header to show all users connected at the same time, or a java macro) but that's ok and acceptable. At least we'd list all Applications and more (Administration app, etc).
