This proposal is great. I like it very much.
I'd like to suggest that we question using "Second Generation Wiki" like we have on this page before. We could use "Structured Wikis" instead or "Application Wikis" or "Structured and Applications Wikis". The point is to push the structure as much as the application aspect.
The phrase "Focus on application creation" could become "Focused on structure and application creation"
In the "did you know" section we could have a section section (maybe using a carrousel) with Clay Shirky and Situated/Situational Applications.
http://www.shirky.com/writings/situated_software.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Situational_application
Guillaume had published on this
http://guillaumelerouge.com/building-situational-applications-with-xwiki
http://www.xwiki.com/en/Blog/Create+Situational+Applications+with+XWiki
The point that we can use from Situated software is that it's important to adapt the software to the users need and not the opposite and this can bring huge benefits and success.. And of course XWiki is good at it
In the section "second generation wikis" we could add "programmability and UI customization" which is much stronger
So, I believe we need to change the second generation wiki section, as listing the apps might be misleading people to think that it's about these specific apps, when it's about the capability of creating them. So what we need to put is the tools and features that make XWiki a second generation wiki. Also there are other things that make XWiki second generation:
- Enterprise features: office viewers and imports, pdf export, multi-wiki support
- Building Custom Structure and Applications: with App Within Minutes you can create your own structures and present the data more powerfully
- Applications: set of application (Blog, File Manager, Meetings, Forum, Tasks) build using App Within Minutes.
- Programming in the Wiki: in XWiki you can script to show data from the Wiki put also from outside tools
- Skin Customization from top to bottom allowing to customize your user interface, including building public web sites
Posssible:
- Nested Spaces: advance navigation using nested spaces
